Short Description of Instrument
The Secondhand Smoke Microenvironment Questionnaire is a ten-item questionnaire designed to measure self-reported involuntary smoke exposure in the work, home, and social spheres.

Scoring and Psychometric Properties
Scoring: Scoring allows secondhand smoke exposure assessment in home, work, and social settings as well as a total score of all three environments. For scoring details, click on the link above or examine Appendix A of the key reference below.
 
Psychometric Properties: Details of the psychometric properties of the questionnaire are provided in the key reference below. Subscale reliability ranged from acceptable to excellent. The three subscales were found to have high face validity and predictive validity.
Rationale/Justification
Strengths: A brief self-report questionnaire that allows assessment of secondhand smoke exposure in three environments, work, home, and social settings. The questionnaire allows researchers to use only those subscales that are applicable.
 
Weaknesses: Questionnaire does not capture secondhand smoke exposure from other products such as e-cigarettes or marijuana.
